Leaders Are Readers: New Little Libraries Available in Hurst, Euless, and Bedford

BEDFORD, TX – May 1, 2019 – On April 10, National Bookmobile Day, the Hurst-Euless-Bedford (HEB) Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class of 2019 celebrated and inducted six Leaders Are Readers little libraries into the community. The concept, it’s easy – “give a book, take a book!” In partnership with Central Arts, each little library was creatively designed by local artists using newspaper stands no longer in circulation. The theme of little libraries was brought to life by incorporating the mission and programs offered at the libraries new home, a local non-profit organization. “We were excited to put the old newspaper stands to use,” said Sergio Santos, Director of Development at Central Arts, “Combining our artists with Leadership HEB was a perfect match.”

Leadership HEB is a program for the development of community leaders in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford area. Participants increase their knowledge of the community while learning team building skills that are applicable to all areas of life. In addition to attending informative class sessions and completing a class project, participants engaged with local officials during a day trip to Austin and by attending a local city council meeting.

The Leadership Class of 2019 proposed several ideas for their class project but ultimately chose to move forward with Leaders Are Readers as the project met multiple goals: 1. Have a lasting and positive impact within the community and 2. Creatively feature multiple community partners.

The little libraries were revealed and presented to the community during a special ribbon-cutting event on April 10. “We always expect great things from our Leadership HEB Class,” said Mary Frazior, President and CEO of the HEB Chamber, ”Partnering with six non-profit organizations in our community will create a lasting impact!”

Leaders Are Readers promotes the power of reading through whimsical and creatively designed free-standing little libraries while bringing awareness to local non-profit organizations. Leaders Are Readers gives the community an opportunity to give back and get involved.
