Member Spotlight: Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP, HEB Chamber 2015 Large Business of the Year

Working behind the scenes to make a difference

Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP, is a law firm that thinks big — but not in the way you might expect.

Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson logoSince 1976, the firm has provided customized collection programs for the public sector. In other words, they help local governments nationwide collect on delinquent accounts, including taxes, traffic citations, court fines and tolls.
To some, that may create the perception of an uncaring law firm picking on people. But Linebarger doesn’t see it that way — quite the opposite.

Steve Meeks, managing partner, said the firm champions fairness.

“For example, we identify fraudulent and inaccurate homestead exemption claims,” he said.

“By pursuing these cases, we ensure that all homeowners pay their fair share. Collecting this revenue also helps government entities provide essential services and reduces the need for tax hikes.”

The firm also thinks big when it comes to community service. Linebarger Goggan has been recognized for its diversity efforts, and around the country, employees are involved in their local school districts, cities and county projects. In HEB, the firm actively supports the HEB ISD Education Foundation as well as the HEB Chamber.

“We know our collection work provides a valuable service,” Meeks said. “But the firm always want to contribute more. The Chamber is an important part of HEB, and we take pride in our membership. And we believe that supporting education is a great way to make a lasting, positive impact on the community.”

“Whether we are pursuing a delinquency case or supporting a local school, our focus is the same,” Meeks said. “We strive to be fair and help create a stronger community.”

Affiliated Bank is not your own personal financial institution — they just want it to feel that way.

Founded in 1958, Affiliated has four locations, including the Bedford facility, opened in 2000.  Affiliated offers business and consumer deposits, mortgage and business lending, online services and more. Affiliated also is a preferred SBA lender.

But while Affiliated is a full-service bank, Dustin Perez-Vitier, business development officer, said the real focus is on building relationships. “We sit down with every customer and find out what’s important to him or her,” he said. “We want to know how we can help them meet their personal needs.”

That personal touch starts with the staff: Affiliated is locally owned and independent. “We live in this community,” Perez-Vitier said. “When the loan committee reviews an application, in many instances, they can say, ‘I drive past that business every day, and they’re doing great.’ ”

Not surprisingly, Affiliated also is active in the community. They have supported the Boys & Girls Clubs, Cenikor, L.D. Bell High School, SafeHaven, Habitat for Humanity and other organizations, including the HEB Chamber.

“We think it’s important to be involved,” Perez-Vitier said. “We are committed to creating not just a better bank, but a stronger community as well.”

“There are banks on every corner, and setting yourself apart is hard,” Perez-Vitier said. “What we want to know is how our products can help you. And what we offer is a very personal experience.”
