Siblings Daniel and Maria Ghaly really know how to express themselves. That’s why they are the winners of our Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) Investor Panel. Their business idea, “Dress to Express” involves making personalized, magnetic accessories that help weigh down clothing on a windy day, protect pants from getting caught in a bike gear or just look great. Eight other companies also presented ideas, and all were awarded some investment money. As the winners, Maria and Daniel will travel to Rochester, NY, in May for the Saunders Scholars semifinal competition. Congratulations to all the students who participated in the program, and good luck to Maria and Daniel!

HEB Chamber Internet Calendar Subscription

CalendarDo you use technology to help manage your calendar and appointments?  Are you a frequent flyer at HEB Chamber events?  If the answers to these questions is “YES,” then adding a web calendar to Outlook, Google Calendar or other tool would likely be helpful to you.

Use the following link, and add it to your subscriptions:

You would copy and paste this into your calendar management tool.  If you’ve never done this, then ask your local nerd to assist.  If you’d like to try this yourself, you can typically find quick videos in YouTube with guidance on how to accomplish it.  For example, the video below focuses on how someone would add a similar calendar in Outlook.   When it comes time to paste the address into Outlook, simply use the one above instead of the one referenced in the video.

Protect Yourself from Roofing Scams

As you well know, Fort Worth was hit with a massive hail storm this week.  That means roofing contractors will be hitting the streets looking for work. And since there is no licensing in the state of Texas, many Fort Worth residents may get scammed.

The North Texas Roofing Contractors Association works very hard to protect consumers from unscrupulous roofing contractors who take advantage of unsuspecting citizens. Below you will find a list of questions that homeowners can use when hiring a roofing contractor. For a list of roofers who are members of the HEB Chamber, click here.

Please see the advice page (CLICK HERE) for a short list of questions in both English and Spanish and visit where you can get additional tips on how to hire a reputable contractor.  Below is a helpful video from their channel on how to hire a contractor.

2016-03-02_15-17-20Today, the HEB Chamber is calling on you to do something to show your support for law enforcement. On Tuesday, March 1, Euless police officer David Hofer was shot and killed in the line of duty. He was only 29 years old. We are challenging you to take part in a simple gesture of support for law enforcement, and do it in Officer Hofer’s name. Whether its a handshake or buying a meal, do what you can to show your support for the men and women who wear the badge. And do it #ForHofer. If you come in contact with a police officer, thank them for their service. Give them a hug. Say a prayer. Pay for their meal. Do what you can. Their next shift could be their last. Share your experience and lets flood social media with #ForHofer acts of support for local law enforcement.
