The Hurst Euless Bedford Chamber of Commerce has had an active Governmental Affairs Committee for many years. This Committee researches issues that will affect businesses and the community. Position statements on issues such as transportation, economic development and education are formed after careful consideration and input from our members.
During the last Texas legislative session two organized trips were taken to Austin to let the voice of business be heard in Austin. Additionally, Chamber Board and Governmental Affairs Committee members responded to specific legislation by contacting individual legislators by phone and email as the session progressed.
Two issues that have been in the HEB Chamber’s position statements for many years – funding for transportation and water – became proposed constitutional amendments. While the water funding amendment was approved by the voters last year, the transportation funding amendment will be on the ballot this November.
The process of recommending positions on issues to the Chamber Board has just begun for the 2015 session. Information from the interim House and Senate Committees are begin studied and input from businesses and the community are being sought.
