Interested in Public Policy? Participate in the Governmental Affairs Committee

The Hurst Euless Bedford Chamber of Commerce has had an active Governmental Affairs Committee for many years.  This Committee researches issues that will affect businesses and the community.  Position statements on issues such as transportation, economic development and education are formed after careful consideration and input from our members.

During the last Texas legislative session two organized trips were taken to Austin to let the voice of business be heard in Austin.  Additionally, Chamber Board and Governmental Affairs Committee members responded to specific legislation by contacting individual legislators by phone and email as the session progressed.

Two issues that have been in the HEB Chamber’s position statements for many years – funding for transportation and water – became proposed constitutional amendments.  While the water funding amendment was approved by the voters last year, the transportation funding amendment will be on the ballot this November.

The process of recommending positions on issues to the Chamber Board has just begun for the 2015 session.  Information from the interim House and Senate Committees are begin studied and input from businesses and the community are being sought.

Do you have a particular issue that affects your business that may come up in the next Texas legislative session?  Do you belong to an industry association that has an issue?  Send me an email and the HEB Chamber’s Governmental Affairs Committee will research it.  Please include your contact information so we can follow up with you.  I can be contacted at or by phone at 817/283-1521.

Our April Member of the Month is Rochelle Ross of A Simplified Space. Rochelle has been a member since 2011, but this is the first year she’s served on the Golf Tournament Planning Committee – and she did an excellent job on the door prizes. She also serves on the Leadership HEB Steering Committee. Please be sure to congratulate Rochelle Ross for her enthusiastic participation in the HEB Chamber!
